My Little Maison: Anastasia Christou of Anastasia Drawing & Dreaming

After a long hiatus from blogging, I am so pleased to return with my favorite series, My Little Maison!  This time around, I am featuring the lovely Anastasia Christou from Anastasia Drawing & Dreaming.  Her blog is a visual medley of ethereal images and crafty paper projects that she sells in her shop.   A bit more about this Sydney, Australia native here below.  Her blog is just dreamy!

Anastasia ChristouBLOG //  SHOP  //  PINTEREST

Tell us about yourself and your inspiration behind starting the blog?

I started my blog after discovering ‘Illustration Friday’ so once I started drawing and doing the weekly challenges I got right into the blogging community –I discovered the craft blogs, design blogs, lifestyle blogs!! Blogging made my day! I was hooked!

How often do you post and what is the majority of your content about?

I try to post at least three times a week but Ive done many ‘post every day for a month’ challenges too!  Most of my content is about my inspirations, Food, Creativity, Décor and handmade and I love to throw in some Vintage Style posts too!  I try to make it all pretty and visual!

What are your future plans for the blog?

To keep blogging and being part of the blogging community.  I’d like to start some new blog series, I have a few ideas brewing and I hope to find more time to share more craft tutorials too!  I think id like to do more guest blog posts on other blogs as well!

I asked Anastasia to share 3 of her favorite things from her home.   I love the Domino Book too!

Anastasia Christou(1) My bedroom – I love to rescue pretty little plates from thrift stores, they are perfect for my jewelry so I have a few on my on my dresser. Also on my bedside table is the Domino Decorating book – one of my favorites decorating books!  I took the photo on my crochet bedspread which is something else I love dearly, it was handmade by my mother, it took her so long and its so beautiful! I will treasure it forever!

Anastasia Christou(2) This is my new desk! I guess that’s why its so clean and tidy.  We changed our house around a little so my work space and crafty supplies are now in our family ‘hangout’ room so its great to have two family spaces – I look forward to getting creative and messy, the only way to create!

(3) My Garden – I wish I had a green thumb but sadly I need a low maintenance garden and ours is just that!!  I love to hang out in the garden, watch my boys play or just sit on the back steps and have my morning tea…

Finally, I asked Anastasia to share a favorite spot in her Little Maison.  “My Kitchen!  It got a makeover a couple of years ago and its still my favorite place to be, I enjoy baking and cooking, making tea or getting my boys some after school snacks so I’m hanging out in my kitchen often!”

Anastasia ChristouDon’t forget to stop in Anastasia’s blog to say hello!

E Hernandez Design Giveaway!

Emma and I bumped into one another in the wonderful world of Etsy and  I was delighted when she agreed to co-host a giveaway!   E Hernandez Designs is aptly tagged; charming stationery at reasonable prices.  Her work is super sweet and affordable!  Thanks to Emma we are giving away one personalized return address stamp (below).  Read more about Emma and then get ready to WIN, WIN, WIN!

Name: Emma Hernandez
Occupation: Small Business Owner & stay-at-home Mom
Hometown: Rushville, Indiana
Current City of Residence: Elk Grove, California
Etsy Shop Start Date:  January 1, 2012

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I try to keep abreast of what the current trends and styles are and then create something with my own flair. Often what is created is attributed to the mood of the day or something funny my kids said or did. A lot of my wedding stationery is inspired from what I think I would have liked if I could do my wedding all over again. I like modern and classic, yet charming and unique. I draw inspiration from everyday life.

What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?
My favorite item has to be my Vintage Carnival Wedding Invitation (pictured above). It was a custom piece and I had so much fun coming up with it. The bride gave me a fair amount of latitude to do what I wanted within her “vintage carnival” theme. It was awesome trying to figure out how to create a 3D ferris wheel as sort of the central artwork on the design. It was so much fun to create!

Name your top three obsessions currently:
I LOVE Reece’s Pieces. I LOVE the show Cupcake Wars. I LOVE the store Rose and Raven on Etsy!  In fact, I just spent about 30 minutes today selling my husband on why it would be a great idea to buy me some jewelry from them!

Finally, I asked Emma to tell us about her favorite spot in her Little Maison and in one word how would she describe it.  I think her answer is my favorite response so far!

My favorite spot is my daughters’ bedroom. I love it because it’s where we snuggle an laugh and play. In one word – couer – heart. Our kids truly are the heart of our home.

Vintage Tins

I’ve been admiring vintage tins lately on Etsy and couldn’t wait to share my favorite finds.  The lemony sweet selection above makes my heart skip a beat, specifically the French “Allumettes” which means matches.  It can be found HERE at LeBox Shop.   For some floral fun, this 1950’s candy tin from Jacklom3 can be found HERE.  I think it’s the perfect place to keep my secret button collection.  Finally, this cheerful trio also from LeBox Shop can be found HERE.  They can hide away small kitchen trinkets like toothpicks, rubberbands and items that get lost in the drawers!

Below is a pastel collection of tins suited more for a vintage chic ladies room!  I just love the tall French En Vogue talcum power tin from 1924.  It can be found HERE at MeshuMash.   Next, the lavendar “bath powder” tin from Alice’s Pocket is so very Marie Anntoinette.  Find it HERE.  Last but not least, this little green gem was used for cough drops but it is the perfect size for storing bobby pins and hair clips.  Stop in at Rhubarb & Apples Vintage, especially if you’re a UK reader – HERE.

Inspiring Artist: Jen Schultz

While checking in on fellow WordPress bloggers, I bumped into the lovely illustration blog,  One Happy Little Mama by Jen Schultz.  I was immediately drawn to her whimsical illustrations and I couldn’t be more pleased that she agreed to a Q & A.  I am most impressed with her ability to manage a blog, create beautiful drawings, work and be a mommy!  In one word I’d call that:  impressive.

To celebrate the Q&A Jen has graciously offered 30% off with code CHIRP05 in her new Etsy shop HEREGo support her!

Also, be sure to follow her blog HERE to witness dreamy creations in the making.

Hometown:   The Deep South
Current City of Residence: Atlanta, GA
Occupation: Administrative Assistant by day, mommy, wife and artist by night

Tell us about yourself and where you draw inspiration from.
I’m a happy mama of 2 awesome children who are my world! I find the most joy in spending time with them.“We never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents.”  Henry Ward Beecher

I am a big fan of quotes. I’m always searching for inspiration in a quote that I can relate to, depending on what situation I am facing on any given day.  Sometimes I’ll have thoughts or worries churning in my head, and I’ll find that one quote that sums it all up for me. And, that’s usually the catalyst for an initial sketch and it just blooms from there.

What is your favorite piece you’ve made recently and why?
‘God is Good’, (above) because I love the message in the Emerson quote, “The wise man in the storm prays to God, not for safety from the danger, but deliverance from fear.”

In this illustration, my little lady is moving forward, confidently, with that dark, stormy cloud behind her.  She knows who is in control, ultimately, and understands the calm that results in being fearless.  It’s not always the easiest advice to follow but, at least for me, it makes perfect sense and helps to set me at ease if I’m facing worry or anxiety in life.

How do you fit art in your everyday life?
Hmm.  This can be a challenge!  Being a working mom, it’s not always easy but I’m pretty crafty at finding all sorts of opportunities during the day to squeeze in a sketch (including while in my car, during lunch hour).  Free time is free time, right?  I’ll take it!

What is one reoccurring theme in your artwork?
I suppose I’ve never really stopped to consider this, before.  But, it seems I’m definitely drawn to my whimsical little ladies who offer up some pretty solid advice for me and, I hope, anyone who views them.  I get a real sense of contentment from my process of having the initial thoughts or feelings about a situation in my life and then putting those feelings to paper through my art, for others to enjoy.

I’ve also illustrated a few critters! I’m a big animal lover, especially birds. Usually, when I draw one of my animals, it’s because something about their shape or color caught my eye and stirred something in me to have a go at my interpretation.

Below, Jen shared a photo of her favorite spot in her Little Maison:  her back porch.   She said it is the best place in the house to watch her children play and the birdies buzz by!  Thanks for sharing Jen!
